The new Turkish military operation in northern Syria has been reported to have resulted in the deaths of a number of Syrian regime forces, while the Turkish military has admitted that there have been losses in its ranks.
The Turkish military has continued shelling the positions of what is known as the majority Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces, as it launched air and artillery shelling of its positions in northern Aleppo on Sunday.
And local sources told Al-Jazeera that military aircraft and artillery of the Turkish army targeted the military airport of Menagh, north of Aleppo.
Sources indicated that Turkish warplanes dropped light bombs on sites in the Ain Al-Arab border countryside with Turkey, and then targeted them with bombing raids.

Earlier, the media (close to the Syrian Democratic Forces) reported that the Turkish Army targeted the vicinity of Tal Rifaat town in northern Aleppo countryside with heavy artillery, and 3 villages belonging to Ain al-Arab Kobani on the Syria-Turkish border in Northern Syria.
He added that 15 soldiers of the Syrian regime forces were killed as a result of the Turkish shelling.
Earlier, the Al-Jazeera correspondent reported that Turkish fighters had targeted military sites of the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces stationed in rural northern Aleppo.
For its part, the Syrian Democratic Forces said it was looking forward to coordinating with the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, to respond to the attacks in Ankara.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara still insists on making the southern borderline completely secure.
For its part, the Turkish defense ministry announced the death of 5 of its soldiers and the wounding of 3 others – yesterday, Saturday – in the Claw-Seef area of operations in northern Iraq.
Meanwhile, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar chaired a meeting at the Military Operations Center at the Ground Forces Command Headquarters in Ankara, attended by the Turkish Chief of Staff and commanders.

The commander of the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, said that protecting northern Syria from Turkish attacks was the duty of the Syrian army. Abdi confirmed that his forces are eager to coordinate with Syrian regime forces to deal with Turkish attacks.
He added – in statements reported by media close to him – that both America and Russia oppose the Turkish attack, but international positions must be stronger with Turkey’s determination to attack.
Abdi said the US administration had officially informed him of its rejection of the Turkish operation and its contact with Ankara to stop it, he said.
Media loyal to what is known as the Syrian Democratic Forces quoted Mazloum Abdi as saying Turkey is preparing for a military ground operation against Ain al-Arab and Manbij in rural Aleppo.
