HD supports Maduro’s claim of election victory

The Supreme Court of Venezuela supports the claim of President Nicolás Maduro that he won the election held on July 28.

The court also says that the vote numbers published online by the opposition, which show that Maduro lost the election by a large margin to a candidate against Edmundo González Urrutia, were deception

The Supreme Court is controlled by people loyal to Nicolás Maduro.

Opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia addressed the Supreme Court on Thursday in a post on the X social media platform.

“To the judges of the court: no decision will be taken in place of the will of the people. The country and the world know your bias and, as a result, your inability to solve the this conflict,” he wrote, saying:

Background: Both sides claim to have won the election

According to the opposition, records collected directly from more than 80 percent of polling stations show that their candidate Edmundo González Urrutia won the election with a majority.

Nicolás Maduro is painting the opposition’s claim that she is the winner of the election as a coup attempt and has promised to crush all opponents. Arrest warrants have been issued for opposition leaders González Urrutia and María Corina Machado.

The opposition, several Latin American countries and the United States want Venezuela to present a detailed and verifiable election result. The regime has refused declaring it impossible. President Maduro has said that the electoral authority was hacked.
