HCL required in Bremen – HCL

After the national team break and cup week, the 2nd Handball Bundesliga starts regular league operations again.

HCL Cup conqueror Füchse Berlin lost to the Saxon Bundesliga club Sachsen Zwickau. All other teams in the 2nd league Rödertal, Buchholz-Rosengarten and Halle-Neustadt also lost, so that the first division teams remain among themselves in the rest of the cup competition.

Hopefully the women of HC Leipzig have made good use of their free time, because they have an uncomfortable opponent waiting for them in SV Werder Bremen, against whom they have won twice and lost twice in the last two years. Bremen won every time in Leipzig (35:32/February 2023 and 26:22/October 2023) while our girls took all the points from Bremen (27:25/September 2022 and 31:22/February 2024), a good omen for Saturday.

HCL head coach Erik Töpfer is looking forward to the game and expects an opponent who is on the rise after three defeats and the win against the Kurpfalz Bären:
“We have almost everyone on board except for two players. The girls were able to regenerate well. Since this week we have been training normally again and are preparing meticulously as always. It will be a mentally combative game. Bremen didn’t start the season so well. Of course they want to change that in their own hall. But we also want to achieve our first away win. For this we need the flow of the last game, the enthusiasm and wit as well as full concentration and we have to accept the fight in the opposing hall. These are the biggest tasks we face.”

If you can’t make it to the Klaus-Dieter-Fischer-Halle in Bremen, you can watch the game in the live stream on Sportdeutschland.tv. The game starts on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., the broadcast starts at 6:15 p.m.

On Sunday, October 20th it is derby time in Saxony: HC Leipzig vs. HC Rödertal.
