HC Ajoie is on forced rest. The National League has chosen to suspend the National League and Swiss League ice hockey championships until March 15 inclusive, due to the risk of spreading the COVID-19 coronavirus. This decision was taken by the representatives of the National League as well as by the 24 clubs which compose it during an extraordinary assembly which was held this Monday in Ittigen.
No audience, no match
“We don’t want a match without an audience,” said Denis Vaucher, boss of the National Ice Hockey League. The Swiss League playoffs were due to start on Friday March 6.
Last weekend, the meetings had been disputed behind closed doors, in accordance with the prohibition pronounced by the Confederation of any gathering of more than 1000 people. The U20 and U17 junior matches are maintained.
Potential resumption on March 17
If the public authorities do not extend this ban, the National League and Swiss League play-offs and play-outs will start or resume on Tuesday 17 March, according to a modified timetable which will be established and published later. On the other hand, if the ban were extended, the sports authorities and the clubs would meet again to decide on the procedure to follow. / Gtr-mmi-ATS
