Third game, third defeat. At the same time, Vítkovice had an excellent match against Ajoie, leading 3:1 in the half, but eventually lost 4:5 in extra time as part of the Swiss mission.

After the initial preparatory defeat against Olomouc on Tuesday, the Ostravas were not enough against the bloated Friborg in a stripped-down line-up. Lakatoš, Deje, Grman, Stehlík and Kovář, who were given time off at the beginning of the Swiss mission, have already gone against Ajoie.

After hits by Peter Krieger, young Josef Krejsa and Petr Fridrich, Vítkovice already led 3:1, but they were brought down by indiscipline. At the start of the third act, the worst unit of the last year’s NLA turned around thanks to power-ups, using three straight in the duel.

The Canadian Stuart Percy then tied the score at 4:4 with his first goal in the Vítkovice jersey, but Ajoie decided after 45 seconds in overtime. Rider now has a day off, finishing the Vallée de Joux action on Friday evening against Geneva.

Miloš Holan (coach Vítkovic): “Second opponent in two days, Ajoie had an off day. We played a good match. We were the better team by the half. At 3:1, we should have secured the result, we had enough chances to do so. But we won 3:2 and the key moment was our bad discipline. I had to raise my voice a lot in the booth after the match because it doesn’t work like that. We are harming ourselves. It was a well-played game that we lost to ourselves. We scored three goals of our own, but rather the weakened ones… We could have gone to the cabins calmly at 3:2, but seventeen seconds before the break we made an unnecessary foul and then an unnecessary short-cut on the bullpen, which put us within three. Any team abroad has a five-on-three power play consisting of foreigners who can really play it, and that happened to us at the beginning of the third period. A conceded goal in a five-on-three game, then another in a five-on-four game, and suddenly we were in a position where we were one goal down. We turned it on and I think we worked until the end, tied it and went into overtime. And there was another small mistake, an overcount and an own goal. Such an unfortunate match.’
