HC Slovan Bratislava Adds Samson Mahbod to Roster, Ethan Werek Out with Injury

At the beginning of the calendar year, the tenth team of the hockey extraleague HC Slovan Bratislava proceeded to exchange two legionnaires.

The 32-year-old forward Ethan Werek is leaving the team’s squad. He was injured at the beginning of December and the season is already over for him. His place in the team should be taken by another Canadian native of Iranian origin, Samson Mahbod.

Werek played seven matches for Slovan with two goals and one assist. In the past, he spent several seasons in the Red Star Khun-lun club and represented China at the 2022 Olympics.

Thirty-four-year-old Mahbod already played in Slovakia for Dukla Trenčín in the past, in the 2021/2022 season he scored 21 points (8+13) in 24 games. In Europe, he also played in Poland, Finland, the Czech Republic or Germany. He worked in the KHL in the Croatian Medveščak Zagreb and in the Russian Higher League and in the Toros Neftekamsk team.

“He spent the rest of the season in the Ice Hockey League in Asiago, Italy. The Canadian-American center with Iranian origins comes to Slovan as a good skater or fighter with a good finish until the end of the season. Samson Mahbod will be available to coach Petr Oremus for Wednesday’s duel in Nové Zámky. ” informs the Slovan website.

“Belasí” are in the 10th place in the extra league table, having collected 40 points in 31 duels. Slovan has a lead of four points in front of the penultimate Novi Zámky.
