Four goals conceded while outnumbered. Basel clearly loses first game of the season

In front of over 3,000 spectators, EHC Basel lost to HC La Chaux-de-Fonds, the champions of the last two years, with a clear score of 1:7. Match winner was Steven Owre with three goals and one assist.
This is not how Basel had imagined the start of the season. However, Neuchâtel’s flowing, effective power play took the game in the wrong direction early on. The first three two-minute penalties all resulted in goals being scored against. The third goal was particularly unfortunate, as the puck went into the goal via the boards and Haller’s pads.
Basel, who played with Törmänen, Barbei and Tschudi, who had been signed shortly before the match, but who had lost Meile (to Lugano) on the other side, kept up with the same number of players on the ice and even had more shots on goal than their opponents at the end. There was hope, especially in the 28th minute when Kummer scored to make it 1:3. Three minutes later, Owre, who scored three goals, restored the old goal difference and paved the way for his team to ultimately win clearly.
The EHC doesn’t have to dwell on this defeat for long. The first home game against HC Thurgau is on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Eastern Swiss team beat Bellinzona 3:1. To mark the season opening (from 4 p.m.), there will be a team presentation after the game, including an autograph session and various interviews.
