Shortly before the match, the Košice club ceremoniously introduced former player and coach Ján Faith to its Hall of Fame, whose symbolic jersey with the number 9 was hung under the ceiling of the Steel Arena.
In the Michalovce goal, Williams got the opportunity for the first time in the series, collecting in the 7th minute after a carefully careful start. Pereskokov kept the puck in the offensive zone, went around the goal and after his pass McPherson opened the score from a medium distance – 1: 0. The first third brought a tactical battle with a minimum of unloaded opportunities. The scores did not change the chances of Saucerman and Bartánus either.
The second third had a similar picture of the game. With 25 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. Subsequently, there was an increase in skirmishes, sparking on the ice several times, but this did not lead to more serious goal opportunities, despite the exclusions.
Michalovčians pushed in front of the goalkeeper Košarišťan from the beginning of the third part, who in the 44th minute missed the chances of Regend and Erkinjuntti. Shortly afterwards, the guests got to a power play, in which the home goalkeeper dealt with the prompt flow of Kukuč. Already after the power play, Buc prevailed against Volgin and after his action Regenda got the puck up close to the Košice goal – 1: 1. By the end of the third period, the Michalovce had more of the game, but the score did not change.
In the 65th minute, McPherson waited for Ihnačák, who got ahead of Williams and decided to extend the third victory in the series in Košice.
