HC Elbflorenz remains an away power

Dresden. Thanks to an enormous away strength, HC Elbflorenz has established itself in the top group of the 2nd handball Bundesliga. The Dresdeners followed up on Christmas Day at TuS Ferndorf and prevailed against the strong host at 31:30 (19:15). Coach Rico Göde’s team has so far scored 11: 5 points in eight games in a foreign hall and is the second strongest away team in the league after HSV Hamburg (12: 4).

At home, however, the Dresdeners are only ranked 16th (4: 6), but have only played five games. The opportunity to improve this balance will be on December 30th. At 7.30 p.m., promoted ThSV Eisenach will compete in the east duel in the ball sports arena.

In Ferndorf, luck was also involved

In Ferndorf, Dresden obviously needed a lot of luck that after a largely decent performance and a supposedly safe lead (28: 23/47.) They could actually celebrate the third victory in a row.

“I had expected that we would not be able to pull off our good offensive performance until the final whistle,” said coach Rico Göde, who also struggled with some referee decisions against his team in the final phase.

He found the red card against Jonas Thümmler, who caught the best shooter from Ferndorf, Andreas Bornemann (eight goals), pretty crisp in the air. “Getting in was a bit wild, but you don’t have to show a red card,” said the HC coach.

His team, however, has to put up with the accusation of not having an overview of the decisive moments in the end and of not having played a decisive role in defense. Anyone who only throws three goals in the last 13 minutes shouldn’t be surprised if a supposedly clear win turns into a wafer-thin one.

After the safe home win against Wilhelmshaven on December 23rd (29:23), Göde had spoken of a “boring win” because his team had spared the coach’s nerves. It is quite possible that the team took the coach too literally. “I rate the victory on Saturday as more important because we showed that we can also hold back at the crucial moment,” said Göde.

A break at the wrong time?

Above all, captain Mario Huhnstock as well as the best shooters Lukas Wucherpfennig (nine goals, five of which by seven meters) and Nils Kretschmer (six) declared Göde as guarantors for the victory. The success in Ferndorf promoted Dresden up to fifth place in the table.

Isn’t the break due to the World Cup until February 5th at an inopportune time? “We certainly have a good run now and could reward ourselves with a fourth win in a row on Wednesday. But this form can also be preserved if you build on it in training, ”says Göde.

The break was just right for his team. “That will do many people good because some players had to play more playing time than planned due to injury phases,” says Göde. He also wants to use the break to regain athletic and physical fitness. “After that, it will hopefully continue.” The little word “hope” is definitely ambiguous in these times.
