If you are waiting for the Swedish launch of HBO Max, it will not be long before you can enjoy access to HBO Max.
In connection with a quarterly report from the parent company HBO, AT&T CFO Pascal Desroches announced that the European launch can be postponed until the beginning of 2022 in several countries. But they did not specifically mention which European countries it is about.
The original plan was for HBO Max to be launched in 21 European countries in 2021. This rollout will now be split up, so that the service will be made available throughout the Nordic region in addition to Spain in the autumn of 2021. To central and eastern parts of Europe, as well as Portugal, the service will not come until 2022.
The head of HBO Max EMEA, Norwegian Christina Sulebakk, told the industry magazine Variety that: “We want more voices and tell more stories, and we want to offer consumers a very competitive price level and a very flexible way to access our products – both via D2C (directly to the consumer) and through our partners in the different regions” .
In August 2021, Sulebakk was awarded First Woman in Series Award during Series Mania in Lille (France). The prize was awarded in collaboration with the European Women’s Audiovisual Network (EWA Network) and Pour Les Femmes Dans Les Médias (PFDM).
What is HBO Max?
On May 27, 2020, HBO Max was launched in the United States. The service offers movies, series and much more content from HBO, Warner Bros., New Line and several other film producers. Thus, Warner Group has finally built up a service that can seriously take up the fight with the dominant streaming service Netflix.
The service was initially only available in the US, but later it will also be open to European and Latin American viewers. Thus, HBO Max will also be available in Sweden from the autumn of 2021.
For the first time, the entire offering from Warner Brothers, which owns HBO, will be available, along with original content from Max, DC and Cartoon Network. In addition to this, there will be purchased content, in addition to the fact that there will also be a focus on local content for the various countries.

What we know today as HBO Nordic will thus be replaced by HBO Max, which according to the Danish website Flat panels among other things, will mean that the content library will be twice as large. What is uncertain is whether this will lead to a price increase or not.
In December 2020, HBO Max came for the first time with content in 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos with the premiere of Wonder Woman 1984. There has been no information that the service will work differently in Europe and Sweden, and in that case it will be the first time that viewers in Sweden can stream HBO content in 4K HDR. Even on the 1080p front, the streaming quality will be significantly higher, with up to four times higher bit rate.
In 2021, Warner Bros. will arrive. to premiere all 17 of its planned films on HBO Max on the same day as they are scheduled to premiere in cinemas. It is uncertain how this will be handled in Europe, and whether we will experience a similar system here.

HBO Max already has incredibly tempting content to offer. Here you will find classic series such as Game of Thrones, The Wire, Sopranos, Vikings and The Handmais’ Tale as well as films such as The Invisible Man and The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The pandemic situation has attracted many new subscribers to HBO Max, but at the same time, the difficult situation has created problems for several of the original productions of HBO Max. Several of the recordings, which should have been well under way already this spring, have only now gained momentum in the sails.
In the US, HBO Max is offered for Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon FireTV, select Samsung TVs, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Chromecast and AirPlay.
