HBO Max broadcasts films and series in 25fps in the Netherlands by speeding up the image – IT Pro – News

HBO Max, which has been available in the Netherlands since Tuesday, accelerates older series and films to be able to broadcast in 25 frames per second. American movies and series from HBO are shot at 23,976fps and are accelerated four percent to match frames.

3FM DJ Mark van der Molen discovered this. He compared images from the opening of Game of Thrones and found that on HBO Max Game of Thrones plays just a little faster, 4 percent faster, he writes on Twitter† Van der Molen explains that Netflix and Disney+ broadcast at 23,976fps, but that HBO Max seems to have chosen 25fps to meet the European standard for television.

HBO Max will be available in the Netherlands from Tuesday for 6 or 8 euros per month. There are two plans, basic and standard, which stream in 720p and ‘best quality’ respectively. That’s generally 1080p, but 4K UHD with some movies and series. FlatpanelsHD previously wrote that new series and movies on HBO Max will be streamed in the original 23,976fps format when it comes to Europe, but older series, including Game of Thrones, have been converted to 25fps.

HBO Max features series and movies from Warner Bros., HBO, Max Originals, DC, and Cartoon Network, among others. Well-known HBO series include Game of Thrones, Succession, The Leftovers, The Sopranos, Sex and the City, Love Life and Raised by Wolves. In the United States, several Warner Bros. came out directly on the streaming service. That was about The Matrix Resurrections and Dune.
