After seven years, HBO Brasil decided not to renew the contract for Greg News, an informative and humorous program presented by actor Gregório Duvivier. The decision was announced by the artist himself in a video published on Instagram this Monday, the 11th.

“No, no more Greg News is starting. Yes, after seven seasons on the air, there will no longer be Greg News”, he lamented in the publication. “HBO ‘agreed’ not to renew. I think it’s surreal. It’s surreal that it took seven seasons for it not to be renewed, I thought it would happen in the second or third”, he joked.

According to him, the program was the company’s longest running in Latin America. In total, the attraction had 170 episodes. “Many times I felt like giving up on the program, because I was very sad, tired or didn’t know what to think or what to say. But I couldn’t give up because of you”, he declared to the program’s audience.

Gregório described that the decision was motivated by screen quota rules. According to the actor, by law, the program is not considered a Brazilian program. The company Porta dos Fundos, creator of the attraction, was partially sold to foreigners

The artist stated that the end of the program will not be his farewell to the company. In 2025, he will return with a new and completely Brazilian program. Bruno Torturra, editor of Greg News, also commented on the decision and confirmed the new attraction.

“When I received the news, and in the days of hard digestion, I began to realize how lucky I was, the unique situation that we created as a team and as a program. I don’t think it was simply ‘comedy news’. It was a journalism essay and humor”, he wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Recently, HBO’s streaming platform, HBO Max, got a new name and became just Max.
