Hayward achieves 41 points; Hornets beat Spurs | sports

SAN ANTONIO (AP) – Gordon Hayward scored 41 points, his highest number of the season, and the Charlotte Hornets were never at a disadvantage on Wednesday night as they beat the San Antonio Spurs 131-115.

Hayward made 15 of 19 shots from the field and matched his season-best number with five 3-pointers on six attempts. He played 29 minutes in the first three quarters and rested during the final period, when Charlotte’s lead had grown to 30 points.

Cody Martin had 21 points and Miles Bridges added 19 for the Hornets, who won for the third time in nine games.

Bryn Forbes scored 25 points and Keldon Johnson had 21 for San Antonio, which closed a five-game home run at 3-2.

Charlotte entered the engagement as the second-highest scoring team of the season. It increased its production, just as LaMelo Ball is about to return.

Ball got the go-ahead Tuesday after missing five games in compliance with league sanitation protocols.
