Hayley Atwell plays Peggy Carter in the MCU since “Captain America”. But in “Doctor Strange 2”, she is Captain Carter, the equivalent of Captian America in another universe. A cameo that did not fully satisfy the actress.
Doctor Strange 2: when Wanda faces the Illuminati
Released in theaters in 2022, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sees Benedict Cumberbatch reprise his role as Sorcerer for a new adventure in which he is the hero. Directed by Sam Raimi, the film sees Wanda Maximoff sink into the dark magic of the Darkhold in an effort to find her children (created by herself in the series WandaVision).
To stop him, Strange teams up with America Chavez, a young girl capable of travel through the multiverse. This is how they will land on Earth-838, a world almost like theirs, with a few changes all the same…

Indeed, this part of Doctor Strange 2 allows you to stage new incarnations of superheroes. We thus see Karl Modo occupying the position of Supreme Sorcerer in this world, and above all the Illuminatia group of superheroes composed in the film by Peggy Carter alias Captain CarterBlack Bolt, Captain Marvel (Maria Rambeau version), Mr Fantastique and the Professor Charles Xavier.
A satisfying cameo for Hayley Atwell
Not satisfied with a simple nod to Marvel fans, Sam Raimi offers a fight sequence in his film of rare violence in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). The Illuminati to confront a powerful and ruthless Wanda.
The latter ends up victorious after leaving a bloodbath behind her. An outcome that obviously did not particularly please Hayley Atwell, the interpreter of Peggy Carter in the MCU since Captain America (2011), who this time had the opportunity to put on Captain America’s costume and his famous shield.

During an interview with Josh Horowitzthe actress said to herself rather « frustrated » by this moment. She believes she was able to bring her character much further with the animated series What if…? but that this cameo of Doctor Strange 2 was not as satisfying.
You know when she says “I can go on like this all day” and right behind her gets cut in half by a Frisbee. And then the audience is like, “Apparently not, you can’t go on like this all day.” (…) It does not serve Peggy very well.
As we can hear during the interview, the actress remains rather amused by the situation and seems to take things ironically, even finding positive in the stunts she was able to perform. She then concludes with a lot of humor saying :
It was quick ! (Peggy) had to do even less than what she had to do before she got the shield.
