It might sound like a dream to beer lovers, but it can’t be good for nature. A river in the Waipio Valley in Hawaii gives off a strong smell of beer and even contains 12 per thousand. A river of beer? How can that be?
As “Hawaii News Now” reports, the local Ministry of Health is currently investigating the case. According to this, there is a supply pipe that runs directly near the river. And that has a leak.
Phenomenon in Hawaii: the river smells like beer
According to the authorities, the pipe belongs to “Paradise Beverages”, the largest distributor of spirits and alcoholic beverages in Hawaii. Environmental activists are alarmed. The river water was contaminated with leaking spirits.
The activist Carroll Cox told “Hawaii News Now”: “When we recently came here, you would have thought it was a pub.” It was also she who informed the authorities about the unusual river.
Laboratory tests have now shown that the water contains 1.2 percent alcohol and about 0.04 percent sugar. How the leak came about has not yet been clarified. However, the brewery has contacted the authorities and has shown itself to be cooperative.
One tourist reported that even the entire area around the river smells like beer. Investigate now how to clean the contaminated water again. (mei)
