The longest day of the year in Frankfurt. Sunday is the Mainova Ironman European Championship.
The starting gun goes off early at 6:30 a.m.: for swimming – 3.8 km in the Langener Waldsee. This is followed by 180 km on the bike around Frankfurt and a marathon run (42.195 km) on the banks of the Main. The first are expected at the Römerberg at around 2 p.m. The finish line closes at 10 p.m. – which means that the last ones have to have arrived by then.

After the race was not so well attended at the top in recent years, this time a few stars will be at the start. After all, it’s all about the last six starting places for the World Championship in Hawaii.
A total of 90 professionals are fighting for victory. At the top is No. 1 Patrick Lange. For the Bad Wildungen native, it is a home race, but the two-time Hawaii winner has never won it: “I will give everything to finally win at home.”
But the strong competition from the USA and Canada will make life difficult for him. First and foremost the current leader of the IRONMAN Pro Series Matt Hanson (USA), the current second-placed Jackson Laundry (CAN), as well as the third-placed Colin Szuch (USA) and the eighth-placed Trevor Foley (USA), who just achieved an impressive victory at the Ironman in Lake Placid just over two weeks ago.
Lange himself sees Norwegian Kristian Blumenfeld, the Olympic champion from Tokyo 2020, as his toughest competitor.
