Last week, fires hit Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean. At the same time, there was a hurricane, and the strong winds caused the fire to spread very quickly. The citizens had to flee quickly and some managed to escape the flames by taking refuge in the ocean.
Unfortunately, the fire did a lot of damage in the town of Lahaina. There are just over a hundred deaths, several injured and many missing. Currently, the majority of the territory affected by the flames is under control. It is one of the worst fires in the United States in decades.
Help from everywhere
Since Hawaii is part of the United States, US President Joe Biden has declared a state of natural disaster. This unlocks a sum of money that will help rebuild the archipelago. The navy, the coast guard as well as the American army were sent on site to support the population.
To accommodate those who lost their homes in the fire, hotels and apartments have been refurbished. In nearby towns of Lahaina, chefs prepare thousands of meals every day to make sure no one runs out.
Organizations collect donations of food, clothing, baby items, gas, etc. Tourists are asked to avoid traveling to Hawaii except for those providing assistance.
High-profile stars such as Jason Momoa and Oprah Winfrey have asked their fans not to attend the venue and to help out by donating. This is also the case of the Hawaiian actress Auli’i Cravalho, whom you may know because she did the voice of Moana.
Other countries have sent resources to Hawaii to help the victims. This is the case of Canada and South Korea. South Korea announced that it would make a humanitarian donation of $2 million. She plans to send food, water and essentials. In Canada, the Red Cross organized a collection of money to help the victims of the fires.
This wave of love towards Hawaii, we feel it all over the world. The As team is wholeheartedly with the people affected by this sad event.
