Hawaii: Boeing pilots apparently succeed in emergency water landing

A Boeing 737 cargo plane crashed into the sea off Hawaii. However, the pilots apparently managed a water emergency landing. Both could have been saved, reports the US broadcaster CNBC, citing flight control. There were therefore no other occupants on board. Further information is not yet known.

A Boeing 737 cargo plane made an emergency landing off the coast of Honolulu early Friday after pilots reported engine failure, according to the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Both pilots were rescued, the FAA said, according to “CNBC”.

“The pilots had reported engine failure and were planning to return to Honolulu when they were forced to land the plane in the water,” the FAA said. “According to preliminary information, the US Coast Guard rescued both crew members. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.”

Several fatal crashes with the Boeing 737

The FAA said that Rhodes Express Flight 810 made an emergency landing around 2:30 a.m. local time on Friday. The plane was not a 737 Max, the plane that authorities grounded for 20 months after two fatal crashes until November last year.
