JAKARTA – Several countries have reported Covid-19 infections in animals. This also includes infections that occur in wildlife. Data from the Office of International des Epizooties (OIE) as the world’s animal health organization, stated that globally, there are currently 500 cases recorded in 10 species in 30 countries.
Spokesman for the COVID-19 Task Force, Prof. Wiku Adisasmito, emphasized that despite the presence of infected animals, so far there is no evidence showing that animals infected with COVID-19 can transmit the virus to humans.
“Therefore, people who keep their favorite animals do not need to be afraid and panic. However, it is recommended to always take care of and fulfill the welfare of pets. Animal owners who test positive are asked not to make contact with animals,” he explained, Tuesday (4/8).
Then, pet owners are asked to reduce their pets’ physical contact with people who have not received the vaccine. And animal owners are encouraged to take their pets to the vet if they show symptoms. (end)
