Interestingly, the sperm of male flatworms is also very different from humans because it has spines around it.

These spiny sperm cannot be sucked in easily, which causes the females to struggle with all their might. In that condition, sperm can stick out of the genital opening.

This species of flatworm is male and female in the same body, because they are animals hermaphrodite.

To note, biologically hermaphrodites are individuals who have two sex organs, namely male and female, and are fully functional.

When entering the breeding season, flatworms will use the penis (stylet), to penetrate the vagina (antrum) at the same time. The body looks like a ring, then rotates when mating.

Meanwhile, flatworm species Macrostomum hystrix have quite a different sex life. They are also hermaphrodites, but they don’t form a ring during mating.
