In the most common species i.e Macrostomumfemale flatworms can suck back unwanted sperm.

They place their mouths over the genital openings, then secrete sperm after mating with male flatworms.

In addition, the females can also multiply sperm to increase the chances of producing offspring.

Not without reason, female flatworms secrete sperm back in her body. They do this so that the sperm produces quality worm eggs.

When entering the breeding season, flatworms will use the penis (stylet), to penetrate the vagina (antrum) at the same time. The body looks like a ring, then rotates when mating.

Meanwhile, flatworm species Macrostomum hystrix have quite a different sex life. They are also hermaphrodites, but they don’t form a ring during mating.
