Liputan6.com, Jakarta Indonesia is one of the countries most affected by Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF/Dengue).
According to the community leader dengue Indonesia Prof Dr dr Sri Rezeki S Hadinegoro Sp.A(K), the virus that causes this disease has types called serotypes.
“Dengue has serotypes. For COVID-19 there is something called Delta, there is something called Omicron, there is also Dengue, but the names are Dengue serotypes 1, 2, 3 and 4,” Sri said in an exclusive interview with Takeda at Cikini, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (13/12/2022).
It has a serotype but until now the Dengue virus has not shown mutations like the virus that causes COVID-19.
“Thanks God not yet until now, since I’ve known Dengue until now, only 4 of them. A serotype is a large group, from that serotype there is a genotype and it is not a mutation but only a variation. There hasn’t been a mutation until now, don’t let it be,” Sri said in response to a question Health Liputan6.com.
He added that dengue serotypes exist and circulate in various regions of Indonesia, but the proportions are different.
“That means when we have a vaccine, the vaccine has to represent all four serotypes.”
Sri also stated that serotype 3 is the most dangerous, characterized by severe clinical symptoms. However, this is different from Thailand, the country’s authorities say serotype 2 has the most severe symptoms.
“In Indonesia Dengue serotype 3 (those with severe symptoms) and the dominant one is serotype 3, but this is not the same in all regions, this is in general,” he said.
