Anyone who has ventured onto the web, in any form whatsoever, in recent days will have noticed: WhatsApp has caused an uproar with the new changes to its T & Cs! Of course, we have told you about it and have made a detailed overview of all the changes made.
The deadline for acceptance is May 15 and since this article is published on May 14, many WhatsApp users have certainly already made their choice.
Question 1: Have you accepted the new T & Cs?
According to WhatsApp, the new T & Cs are primarily aimed at simplifying communication between individuals and businesses. However, by accepting them, you will also allow the company to share more of your data with Facebook, which is exactly why many users and experts consider these changes essential.
WhatsApp said in a statement that “a majority of users have accepted the new changes.” In my private circle of friends and acquaintances, I also see a few users who have switched to an alternative to WhatsApp. So what about you?
Personally, I am waiting before accepting the new T & Cs. I will certainly still have time to observe how the situation unfolds, but I think that one day or another I will be forced to accept them. My attempts to convince my most important contacts to switch apps have already failed.
Question 2: Did you quit WhatsApp?
In the comments of our articles on WhatsApp, I kept reading preferences for certain messaging applications. It’s no longer a secret that Elon Musk is in favor of the free Signal alternative since his Twitter post in January.
As we wrote in a dedicated article, Signal has also made a real effort to attract WhatsApp skeptics. In doing so, it’s really not hard to outshine the meager feature set and design of the popular messaging app. A subject that we detail in our article which gives you 8 reasons to quit WhatsApp.
So I would like to ask you a second question: Did you quit WhatsApp?
I can already see the cool kids bragging in the comments that they’ve never used WhatsApp! But please don’t disparage the defenders of WhatsApp. If you like the app, only use it because all your friends are there and you sacrifice some privacy for it, you have the right to!
Question 3: Which alternative did you choose?
Finally, as part of our poll this week, we want to know which app will come out on top of all this WhatsApp hustle and bustle. Which messaging app do you think is the best alternative? The question isn’t necessarily which app you are using, which is why I haven’t enabled multiple choices.
Even though the new changes to WhatsApp are up for debate, I would like to know your reasons for changing or staying on WhatsApp in the comments. Personally, I think the social component plays a bigger role than many users think. So stay objective my friends and let’s discuss it in the comments!
