WRONG One cause of acid reflux is a stomach disorder called a hiatal hernia. The diaphragm usually helps keep acid in the stomach, but if you have a hiatal hernia, the acid can move up into your esophagus and cause symptoms of acid reflux disease.
The reason is, when the top of the stomach moves over the diaphragm, the muscle that separates the stomach from the chest. As reported by WebMD, Wednesday (11/3/2021), there are several risk factors that cause stomach acid disease, including:
1. Eat large portions or lie down immediately after eating.
2. Being overweight or obese.
3. Eat heavy meals and lie on your back or bend over.
4. Consumption of snacks (snacking) before bed.
5. Consumption of certain foods, such as oranges, tomatoes, chocolate, mint, garlic, onions, or spicy or fatty foods.
6. Consumption of certain beverages, such as alcohol, carbonated drinks, coffee, or tea.
7. Smoking.
8. Being pregnant.
9. Take aspirin, ibuprofen, certain muscle relaxants, or blood pressure medications.
In addition, someone who has stomach acid disease will also feel some symptoms. Common symptoms of acid reflux that often occur are:
1. Heartburn with pain or discomfort such as a burning feeling that may move from the stomach or chest, or even up the throat.
2. Regurgitation, sour or bitter taste that goes into the throat or mouth.
3. Bloating
4. Bloody or black stools or vomiting blood
5. Dysphagia or the sensation of food stuck in the throat
