Have frozen the ovary

The story of Swedish Elin Kjos (32) inspires thousands. She subsisted as a healthy exercise role model on Instagram until March, when a tumor over 20 centimeters was found on her right lung. Kjos had had a bad cough for over a year, but never thought in those ways that this could actually be something serious.

The tumor and a large part of the lung were operated on, but the damage had already occurred. The cancer had spread. Kjos was treated with a combination of immunotherapy and chemotherapy that she received until mid-July.

At the end of that month, she should receive an answer as to whether the treatment had worked or whether the lung cancer had spread further. Fortunately, it did not, but the metastases had not decreased and she has continued with the treatments.

The 32-year-old wants to live, something she does not hide in a new interview with Expressen.

Inspires thousands

Kjos has a motto, which she mentions in the interview. She accepts the diagnosis, but not the prognosis. She has been on two different types of chemotherapy, but has now cut out one. Her body can no longer tolerate it, but she is still dependent on receiving treatment every three weeks. This is how the disease is kept in check.

Her twin sister Ida can also be interviewed, and says that they are now looking for alternative treatments. The odds are not good, but they refuse to give up.

– If you look at the statistics, we have about a percent chance. But doctors said she was going to lose her hair, lose muscle mass and lose weight, and none of that has happened. We want to feel that we have done everything, that we are fighting the disease. I can not just sit down and hope for the best, says the twin sister.

Over 60,000 people follow Elin Kjos’ life on Instagram. She made herself known as a training influencer, which she still is. The disease has not made her shy away from the gym – on the contrary, it has almost given her more motivation.

That attitude also motivates the fans, who share their photos under the topic «tränaförElin». The idea is that “if Elin can train, I can do it, and”.

Freeze the ovary

The 32-year-old has every ambition to live on. Among other things, she will do as her sister, who has started a family. A chemotherapy treatment can destroy the ovaries, so she has decided to freeze them.

– They had never been involved in it at the lung cancer ward. If he has my prognosis, children are not the first thing they discuss, then it’s just about survival, but I said: “If I survive, I will have children”, she says to Expressen, and continues:

– Only a few days later, I operated on my ovary so that it would not be damaged by the cytotoxic drug. Now it is frozen in a laboratory, so if I get well… When I get well they will operate on it again, she says.

According to an article from Research Cancer treatment can lead to infertility, ovarian failure and early menopause. Therefore, some choose to freeze eggs or parts of the ovaries. The tissue that is frozen can be transplanted back into the body later.

To See and Hear, Kjos explains the procedure as follows:

– I operated on a whole ovary, with eggs and fallopian tubes. The risk of it being destroyed is high due to the cytotoxic drug. And if I get well, I would like to have the opportunity to start a family, she says, and continues:

– They did a fairly acute peephole operation on me, because I was going to start chemotherapy fairly quickly. My ovary is now frozen until I need it again. Then it is thawed and put back in the body, she says.

– Extremely tough

Kjos’ treatment will only be stopped completely if her body can no longer cope, and if her values become too bad. When Se og Hør spoke to Kjos in May, she described the life situation as a nightmare that never ends.

– I still have difficulty even understanding that I am as sick as I actually am. Mentally it is extremely tough and there are a lot of tears, restlessness and stress now.

In June, she said she is starting to feel more tired and less able to cope with each day.

– It is difficult mentally, but I try to still think positively and keep my spirits up, she said when See and Hear spoke to her shortly after her second treatment.

In her channels, where she has over 60,000 sensors, Kjos has found a lot of support lately.

– I have always been very open in social media and have always felt enormous support from my followers. In different parts of life, she told See and Hear, and told why she has chosen to be so open in the fight against cancer.

– For me, it became a natural step to continue to share from my everyday life even now. The love and support that I now receive daily through Instagram is completely incomparable and gives me strength to continue to fight. Hopefully it can give strength and support to others who are in the same situation as well.
