A positive result means you have an active infection. The chance is small that it concerns a past infection that is still picked up, which often happens with a PCR test.
A negative result means you probably do not have an active infection. However, it can happen that you test negative, but are still infected. This can especially happen if you have not been infected for a long time.
Antigen tests are less good than PCR tests at picking up fledgling infections. But so-called superspreaders will be able to be detected, as well as infected people with symptoms. For people without symptoms, the scientific evidence of a rapid test is somewhat less clear.
Just because the tests do not give a 100 percent guarantee, it is best to stick to safety measures, such as keeping your distance and wearing mouth masks.
