Have a hearty breakfast and lose weight? This is how the breakfast diet works

This diet is not linked to calorie restrictions or anything like that. All you have to do is make breakfast the biggest meal of the day.

The breakfast diet

The idea is that you eat the most daily calories in the morning, for example 700 calories. Lunch is a little smaller, about 500 calories, and the smallest meal of the day is dinner, at just 300 to 400 calories. In this case, the majority of carbohydrates and proteins are shifted to breakfast and lunch, so that dinner consists mainly of proteins and vegetables.

The idea behind it is that the time of day, so when you eat and how often you eat, is more important than what you actually eat. Our hormones are responsible for storing and burning fat and they change throughout the day.

Lose weight with a hearty breakfast

Research also shows that a hearty breakfast can lead to weight loss. Daniela Jakubowicz, a professor of medicine at Tel Aviv University, conducted a study with 94 overweight women and men over an eight-month period. The study participants were divided into two groups with two different diets: one group was fed a low-carb diet with a small breakfast, a normal lunch and a larger dinner, while the other group followed the breakfast diet and consumed the most calories in the morning .

Hold on longer

Fair is fair: by the end of the study, both groups had lost weight because both diets were associated with a calorie deficit. But it can be said that the breakfast group lost significantly more weight, felt more alert and energetic and had less appetite for carbohydrates than the other group. This ensures that there is a good chance that the breakfast group would stick to the diet for longer.
