Havana Syndrome – Mysterious Syndrome: – Doubles the stakes

In May it became known that Over 130 Americans in the last five years have been affected by the mysterious “Havana Syndrome”.

The first reports of the diagnosis came in 2016. US diplomats at the US Embassy in Havana, Cuba became over time ill with the same symptoms, after hearing a sound.

The CIA, the FBI and several government agencies are linked to the case, but the cause of the health problems has still not been determined.

US authorities are now investigating more than 20 possible cases of illness among diplomats and representatives in Vienna. according to The New Yorker the reported number in Vienna is the highest after Havana.

Doubles the bet

Experts have been discussing the causes and effects since the first cases were reported in Cuba. Later came similar reports from Russia, China and the United States.

A sonic attack with high-frequency sound has been one explanation. The sound of crickets one another, and none of the theories killed the other.

Some of the injured have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injury. Others report hearing loss, dizziness, sleep problems, headaches and cognitive impairment.

The new cases are said to have created widespread concern in the Biden administration. According to The New Yorker, the efforts of the US authorities are now being doubled to determine the cause of the symptoms, as well as identify who is behind it.

– We work with US authorities in a joint investigation, in line with our role as host state. We take the messages very seriously, the security of the diplomats sent to Austria and their families is our top priority, says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vienna in a statement, according to NTB.

Vienna has been a well-known haunt of espionage and intelligence for years. The city houses, among other things, the headquarters of several UN organizations, as well as several international organizations with information that is of interest to a number of states.

In addition to a significant number of intelligence personnel from the United States, Britain, China, France and Russia, it is believed that Iran, Syria and North Korea, among others, have representatives present in the Austrian capital.

– No hocus pocus

Russia has been identified as a suspected actor behind the possible sound attacks. Researchers have suggested that they may have been performed with targeted microwaves.

Professor emeritus Jens Martin Hovem at NTNU, expert in sound and acoustics, has previously said Dagbladet that if the damage is caused by high-frequency sound, it can simply be transmitted from an ordinary speaker.

– The sound can come from a speaker that can be several square meters large, and works with a very high frequency. This is a design problem, and not a hocus pocus.

According to Hovem, it is not particularly difficult to direct the sound at one person or one building. It’s about the design of the speaker.

– Think of a radar antenna: A round disk that is equipped with a mosaic of ceramic tiles, but which instead of sending electromagnetic radiation, causes the mosaic to oscillate at any high frequency you want, says Hovem.

He has no doubt that one can be affected by sound – all kinds of sound.

– Sound has an influence on all living life in one way or another, such as noise, which bothers people, or through communication over long distances. The fact that one cannot hear a sound does not necessarily mean that the sound is not there. In all cases, sound is mechanical vibration, and high frequency sound can be harmful.
