A 21-year-old young woman imprisoned in the women’s quarter of the Mulhouse remand center (Haut-Rhin) hanged herself on Sunday evening in her cell which she occupied alone, report our colleagues from Alsace.

This young inmate, who was awaiting trial, was found hanged with a sheet by guards during a round, Sunday around 9 p.m. She was immediately unhooked but the emergency services, arrived on the spot, could not resuscitate her.
“Nothing allowed to imagine this tragic gesture. The security protocol of the rounds was scrupulously respected”, indicated Christophe Schmitt, interregional secretary Force Ouvrière / Grand Est. The young woman was “in a single cell and not in the disciplinary quarter,” he said.
Two people committed suicide last year at the Mulhouse remand center, an establishment which has 302 places, 16 of which are devoted to the women’s quarter, according to the website of the Ministry of Justice.
