From cinema to real life, there is no accessory that characterizes a character better than a hat, as these examples demonstrate. And the list could continue with Maria Callas, who loved them large and sumptuous, Diana Vreeland who wanted them bold and original or Isabella Blow, whose look persists in the collective imagination always combined with a hat, preferably by Philip Treacy. Last September, at the Venice Film Festival, it was Lady Gaga who revived its legacy, wearing an elaborate lace headdress by the English milliner that previously belonged to Blow.

For Autumn Winter 2024/2025 the hat is the touch that cannot be missing to define the look. With or without brim, structured or soft, in smooth or textured fabric, it has not failed to make its return to the catwalks with classic or, on the contrary, eccentric models, which are already a must-have. If in winter the hat performs the function of keeping you warm, it is also true that a scenographic touch doesn’t hurt. The style offices of the fashion houses must have thought so this year, which rather than on models that cover the ears, focused on creations that add a layer to the story of everyone’s personality, standing out for creativity and uniqueness.

Both his journey at Dior, as well as his journey with his eponymous label and then at Maison Margiela, would not have had the same impact on fashion without that multifaceted anthology of headwear one-of-a-kind unconventional and surprising.

Returning to the Autumn Winter 2024/2025 catwalks, hats become more wearable but not without an extravagant streak. Prada, for example, has covered a whole series of officer’s models with colored feathers and crushed velvet. pillbox hat — another name for the aforementioned tambourine model loved by Jackie Kennedy. Hats in the shape of a small drum, with or without peak, dominated the winter catwalks: partly a return to the Sixties style, partly a nod to the military universe, another trend of the season. Not only Prada, but also Loro Piana, Altuzarra, The Row, Thom Browne and Celine were the protagonists of this retro revival, but the return of hats also took other forms.

Chanel Autumn Winter 2024/2025
Spectacular, colorful and precious, with a wide brim with a jewel brooch pinned on it, Chanel hats bring back the atmosphere of the winter sea; black and pulled down over the top, Dior’s Fedoras add a cinematic charm to Sixties looks and a dose of mystery, on the catwalk together with bold leather berets and animal-print jockey hats. As for shapes that catch the eye, Schiaparelli offers a reinterpretation of the Phrygian cap, while Louis Vuitton extends the classic beanie in a playful shape that recalls the ears of our animal friends. Not to mention Diesel, where the hat made of fabric fringes becomes an ironic wig. Who knows if this new one wave of hats will be able to sweep away the hegemony of beanie e baseball hat even in street style.
