Hate crime: How Michael Kretschmer is threatened at Telegram

Telegram channel with 90,000 members

In fact, the Telegram channel of the small party “Free Saxony” is causing greater unrest in Saxony. There has been mobilization for corona protests in the Free State for weeks. The “Free Saxony” group, now classified as right-wing extremist, was founded at the beginning of the year – mainly by actors who have been active in the right-wing extremist scene for a long time. They see themselves on the upswing, the number of members of their Telegram channel is increasing continuously, around 90,000 users are now registered there.

How many of these users live in Saxony and how serious their right-wing extremist attitudes are is difficult to assess. According to MDR research, the Saxon Prime Minister Kretschmer himself has been hounded and incited on the channel for some time. For example on November 30th, four days before his appearance on ZDF.

Hatred and a call to revolution

In a post, the makers of “Free Saxony” accuse the Saxon head of government of preparing a tough lockdown. The post is commented 206 times. Sometimes the users express incomprehension and anger. And there are also: Massive insults and even death threats.

One user wrote: “Arrest Kretschmer immediately! Reintroduce the death penalty in Germany!” and another commented only with the word: “Gallows”. Others speak of revolution and call on the military and police to join the corona protests. There is hardly any contradiction to such statements in this group.

In another post on November 26th, the “Free Saxons” criticized the police for being involved in the Corona protest in Zwönitz in the Ore Mountains, speaking of “Kretschmer’s militias” and “Kretschmer’s mercenaries”. Also found below: Inhuman comments, such as: “May Kretschmer and his vassals and his informants perish miserably in this chat, then maybe my Christmas wish to piss on his grave will come true”.

Kretschmer has become a figure of hatred by the extreme right on the Internet, and in some cases there are even calls to move in front of his private house. It actually happened once before, in January. In this situation too, Kretschmer was still looking for a dialogue. Nevertheless, as a representative of the state, he is flatly rejected and threatened.

So also after his appearance on Maybrit Illner on Thursday evening on ZDF. In a recent post, the “Free Saxons” refer to him as “Despots”. Then on Friday morning they wrote a list of places where there should be protests over the weekend. This post then collects massive new insults against the Saxon Prime Minister.
