Hate Crime at House of Lux: LGBTQ+ Individual Attacked Leaving Ghent Club

In the AM Club in Ghent, a stone’s throw from the Korenmarkt, there was a House of Lux queer party last Tuesday. This is for people from the LGBTQ+ community who do not identify with a fixed gender or a certain sexual orientation.

One young participant came there for the first time in drag. That means he wore women’s clothes. The visitor was verbally and physically attacked when leaving the club on Wednesday morning. He also suffered minor facial injuries and was taken to hospital. “Everything points to a hate crime,” says Glenn Dierickx of House of Lux.

Matto Langeraert of the police confirms that a report has been made and that findings have been made. He cannot say much about the reason for the violence. “The investigation is ongoing, we cannot go into detail yet. There is certainly a suspect for the facts.”
