After a convicted murderer and rapist from Ludwigshafen was released from custody, hate comments were acclaimed online. The police want to investigate the measures.
The hate comments and death threats against the 19-year-old are disturbing, repulsive, and even full of misspellings. One of the “harmless” comments on the net is: “The hunting season is open”. Murder fantasies can also be read at times, which the author does not want to reproduce here because they are simply primitive and brutal and clearly require vigilantism.
Police: hate comments can be punished
According to the police, they check the comments: “If criminal content appears on the web or on social media – insults, threats or even incitement to commit crimes – then criminal proceedings will be initiated.”
Since so many requests have been received about this procedure, the Frankenthal District Court has also reacted. On the district court website, a FAQ with the most important questions and answers about the case be displayed.
A 19-year-old man convicted of murder and rape in August is on the run. Since the verdict was not yet final, he remained in custody. Too long, as the Zweibrücken Higher Regional Court has now decided. The decision sparked indignation.
Moreover…
On Friday it was announced that a 19-year-old had been released from custody, although he had been sentenced to ten years in prison for the murder and rape of a 17-year-old in August. The Higher Regional Court of the Palatinate in Zweibrücken upheld an appeal and revoked the arrest warrant on the grounds that the man had been in custody for too long due to delays in the proceedings.
After release from prison: the police review protective measures
Due to the hateful comments, a police spokesperson said the agency “was constantly evaluating the situation”. Police are checking whether protective measures are needed for the 19-year-old, such as regular patrols.
In addition, the police must ensure that the alleged murderer released does not pose a danger to others.
The dead girl’s parents are shocked
Parents of the 17-year-olds killed were shocked that their daughter’s alleged killer was free again, co-plaintiff’s attorney Christoph Hambusch told SWR on Friday. The decision of the Zweibrücken Higher Regional Court was unbearable: “The parents are exhausted. And they are probably also afraid of this 19-year-old, who now walks around unconditionally.”
The police have already tried to calm the family down. It also doesn’t rule out that police are watching the alleged killer, the lawyer said.
Two years ago, a 17-year-old was raped and suffocated at the Willersinnweiher in Ludwigshafen. The young woman died. The Frankenthal District Court sentenced a 19-year-old to ten years in prison.

Outrage on the Internet – even insulted the lawyer
The outrage on the net is great. Even the defender of the alleged killer receives abusive emails, as he told SWR. Alexander Klein describes the fact that the police now have to protect his client as an “awkward situation”.
Klein criticized the fact that private data was shared on the Internet. Part of the investigation files would have been published in the media and photos of his client’s family home. Does the 19-year-old pose a danger to others? “I have no concrete indications of further crimes,” the lawyer said.
Instead of being outraged by the detainee’s release, one should be annoyed by the Frankenthal District Court’s poor conduct of the negotiations, Alexander Klein said: “We slept through time.”
Why did the murder trial last so long?
The Frankenthal District Court justified the lengthy length of the trial in a statement with the extensive taking of evidence during the trial. Additionally, there were many corona diseases among those involved in the process. However, the court also openly criticized defense attorney Klein: the consideration of the “very busy defender” was “difficult to reconcile with the maximum acceleration required in detention cases”.
Hateful comments about criminals are also criminal offenses … according to SWR reporter Heiko Wirtz-Walter.

The lawyer doesn’t expect a decision on the review until the summer
As an appeal has been filed, the Frankenthal District Court ruling in August for murder and rape is not yet final. Defense attorney Alexander Klein assumes that the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) will only make a decision in the summer of next year: “Unless everyone drops the appeal,” Klein says.
Ludwigshafen police could still handle the case for months, on the one hand to protect the alleged convicted murderer and on the other the public.
