Hasselt University discovers way to preventively detect age-related diseases with urine samples

“Proteins circulating in the human body that end up in the urine. 54 of those protein fragments can be linked to aging and in this way we can predict the biological age of people,” explains Dries Martens, PhD at Hasselt University. Those protein fragments show whether a person is more likely to develop certain age-related diseases. “We can see if people are more likely to have diabetes, high blood pressure and other age-related conditions.”
