Five of the seven Blackwater people infected with the coronavirus live in Hasselt. Mayor Bilder announced this on ZwartewaterFM on Wednesday evening. One of them is therefore GP Van Gijssel. “Hasselt is a relatively small core with a relatively high number of infections,” said Bilder, who once again called for the current situation to be taken “very seriously”. The other two infections are incidentally in Zwartsluis.
The mayor did not want to anticipate whether the municipality of Hasselt will take more stringent measures than the national rules. “The situation does not lead to a tightening of the policy, but I must say that I do not know what that will be like tomorrow. It’s about daily rates, ”said Bilder, who is impressed by the way in which the community adheres to the rules. He also thinks it is “heartwarming” how people want to help each other.
General practitioner Van Gijssel feels reasonable, he said in the broadcast. He mainly coughs and suffers from shortness of breath. He can help people by phone. He probably contracted the infection last week. “That must have happened in practice. I was working on Monday and heard that a patient was infected. Then the GGD called to close my practice. The next day I got sick and found that I have the coronavirus among the members. I do not know if I subsequently infected more people. The GGD is no longer testing this. But I imagine people who hear this news are shocked. ”

The municipality has meanwhile been in contact with all chains. They close their doors. “The young people also see the seriousness of the situation,” said the mayor.
