Hasselblad XCD 28mm f/4 P: A Compact Lens for Street, Travel, and Nature Photographers

Hasselblad is now releasing its new XCD 28mm f/4 P compact lens, a new addition to their P series defined by light weight and more compact design as opposed to the more studio oriented V series.

According to Hasselblad, the new lens is the lightest lens they have created for their mirrorless cameras, but despite this it is made of metal. The idea with its design is that it should match the compact camera body X2D and thus also contribute to a combination with light weight, suitable for example for street photographers, travel photographers or nature photographers who value light weight.

The optical construction is made up of 9 elements in 8 groups, with two aspherical lens elements and one ED lens element – something that together contributes to low chromatic aberration and can deliver high image sharpness in up to 100 megapixels. The central shutter in the lens allows it to use flash sync down to 1/4000 second.

The proximity limit is 0.22m. The autofocus is also said to be fast as the lens uses a linear stepper motor that adjusts a smaller group of lenses, and together with the phase-detecting autofocus of, for example, the X2D 100C should provide fast and accurate focus.

Hasselblad XCD 28mm f/4 P has at the time of release a recommended price of 1,899 euros including VAT, corresponding to around 24,000 kroner.
