Johannesburg: South African player Hashim Amla, one of the best batsmen the cricket world has ever seen, has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. The player, who had already had enough of international cricket, was batting for Surrey in county cricket. This is also a pause. The 39-year-old played a crucial role in helping Surrey to the title last season. This marks the end of a two-decade long career.
He announced his retirement from international cricket after his poor performance in the 2019 World Cup. Amla, who has excelled in Tests, ODIs and Twenty20s, is the only player to score a century in a Test trip for South Africa. He scored 311 not out against England in 2012. Scored 9282 runs at an average of 46.64 in 124 Tests. In this regard, only Jacques Kallis (13,206 runs) is ahead of the South African players. He scored 8113 runs in 181 ODIs with 27 centuries at an average of 49.46 and 1277 runs in 44 T20Is at an average of 33.60. The player who scored 27 centuries in ODIs holds the record for the fastest to complete 25 ODI centuries.
Amla scored a total of 34,104 runs in professional cricket, of which 18,672 runs were scored for South Africa. In the IPL, he played the role of opener for Kings XI Punjab but did not shine much. Rumors are active that Amla will become the batting coach of the South African men’s team.
