Now that we’re all wrapped up in the multiversal madness of Deadpool and Wolverine, it’s easy to overlook Marvel’s other fun stories. The recent MCU announcements, led by Robert Downey Jr. as Dr. Doom (formerly Iron Man), are a prime example. However, there are other, less well-known, equally interesting stories.
We have to travel to the crazy Marvel zombie universe to find a story as crazy as it is fun. It’s called Marvel Zombies: Dawn of Decaywhich translates as the Dawn of Decadence. There is no doubt that it is a nod to Dawn of the Dead or Dawn of the Living Dead. This new series will begin in September 2024, but we already have a lot of information about its story.
Marvel Zombies: Dawn of Decay brings together Groot (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Hulk in a story of survival in which patient zero is Captain America… although the person responsible for bringing misfortune to both the Avengers and the X-Men is Groot himself. The poor guy contracts a space disease and infects Steve Rogers by accidentally sneezing on him.
Groot is under attack by a horde of zombified Avengers, and only he and the Hulk, with his impenetrable green skin, remain immune. Now it’s up to these two heroes to team up and fight their way through a crumbling New York City to Banner’s lab at Avengers Tower to find a cure before it’s too late. But can Groot keep the hero in check and on the right path, or will the Hulk unleash his deadly power on the zombies they once called friends?
The main cover of Marvel Zombies: Dawn of Decay #1 It’s great and brutal. We’ve also been able to see some (official) alternatives and a small preview thanks to the medium ScreenRant. And as an additional detail provided by the media, it seems that this new zombie plague will take place on Earth-616. It is not the first time that Groot and Hulk have teamed up, but it is undeniable that they are a peculiar duo.
