Like the Audi S3, the Volkswagen Golf R previously featured Haldex-type all-wheel drive. An efficient transmission to pass the power to the ground, but not to provide the greatest possible driving pleasure: with this system, it is impossible, for example, to put the car in glide.

But things are changing. The very new generation of the Golf R has indeed a much more advanced transmission: its rear axle has a torque vectoring function and can receive its power in much more generous proportions than a conventional Haldex system.
Finally fun?
As a result, the Golf R has become a particularly fun machine to ride. As you can see in the video below, it can slide in Drift mode like a Mercedes-AMG A45 S.
