There is a Twitter post that claims that vaccination against COVID-19 in children has been suspended in the UK because it is “seriously dangerous”. However, this statement is false.
The phrase was shared on a user’s profile who usually spreads disinformation. In addition, the tweet contains an interview, conducted by the Spanish media Antenna 3 César Carballo, emergency doctor, who says he wouldn’t have vaccinated his children if they didn’t show up “risk factors”.
It is not the first time that in countries of Europe false information is disseminated on the suspension of vaccination against COVID-19. In 2021, Cocuyo control occurred a misleading post with data out of context on ending the application of vaccines in Sweden and Norway.
Last week, the British fact-checking portal Done full also denied an article posted on Facebook that says so forbidden immunization in under 12 years old in the UK “because they don’t need it and probably have natural immunity”.
Since the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended the authorization of the application of vaccines for children of From 5 to 11 years (two doses of 10 micrograms Pfizer – BioNTech), the UK health authorities have not suspended immunization to this group, but apply it under certain conditions.
Child vaccination in the UK
through the Department of Health and Social Care of the British government, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (Jcvi) has considered childhood vaccination From 5 to 11 yearsfor February 2022, as an offer not urgent For patients not in the group clinical risk. However, this does not mean that vaccines are not given to this age group.
In his opinion Jcvithe offer of vaccination in children in the UK meets the goal of increase immunity in people vaccinated earlier than a possible wave of COVID-19. However, the commission insists that anticovid vaccination programs should not replace the application of other pediatric vaccines.
According to National Health Service (SSN)the children who have fulfilled 5 years starting September 1, 2022 they can receive a first and second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine if they are on risk due to a health condition, an immune system weakenedor if they are living with someone who is immunologically weak.
The agency explains it booster dose (or third dose) in this age group is only contemplated if the patient has an immune system “severely debilitated” when you received the first two doses.
In conclusion, it is false that in the UK, vaccination against COVID-19 for children has been suspended because it is “terribly dangerous”. British health authorities continue to apply vaccines to children who have at least fulfilled 5 years until the September 1st (or after).
