Has made surprising Shall we dance investment

This autumn, TV 2’s sports anchor stuck Simon Nitsche (29) off with the victory in Shall we dance, together with dance partner Helene Spilling (24).

“Helene, this victory is yours,” said Nitsche, before lifting the trophy together.

In the time after this year’s Skal vi danse season, Spilling has returned to everyday life, where she is a dance coach and teacher.

Now, however, the 24-year-old has taken great strides, and realized a dream.

To be demolished

It was an early Christmas present at Spilling, when she chose to start her very own dance studio, The Zone Dance Studio.

– Today I have become a key and many square meters richer! I open my own dance studio, Spilling slices on his Instagram.

But it’s not just any studio she now runs. Spilling rents the Skal vi danse studio at Bislett in Oslo, where she has spent countless training hours in recent years.

– I have wanted to start my own dance studio for many years, so I started looking for premises last year, for Shall we dance, Spilling says when TV2.no calls her.

With supportive and committed parents, Spilling started the search for the perfect dance venue in Oslo, but struggled to find it – until now.

– I heard that the studio will be demolished next year, and that it was therefore empty now. Nordic film that produces Skal vi danse for TV 2 was therefore looking for new premises. Then I said that if they came across something, they had to say no, since I was also hunting, she says.

– Then they suggested that I could take over the Shall We Dance studio, until it was to be demolished.

The Skal vi danse studio has until now been run by former Skal vi danse judge, Tor Fløysvik (72), and former sports dancer Espen Salberg (69), under the name Det Norske Dansecenter, but ended the rent of the studio in November.

– The building will be demolished shortly, and the farm owner therefore does not extend any of the leases in the building. We have run Det norske Dansecenter in Pilestredet 75 C for 32 years, and therefore have new plans with a current location and a sensible perspective, Fløysvik and his wife Mette write in an SMS to TV2.no

For a number of years, almost 3,000 young and old have frequented the dance studio every year.

– Together with the world elite in dance, there are therefore many who have good memories from the parquet in Pilestredet. But now it’s over, and the light goes out for good, the couple writes.

Fløysvik states that they have found new premises, but that the corona restrictions make the future uncertain.

Development director in KLP Eiendom, Eskild Rolstad, confirms to TV2.no that the building in Pilestredet 75 C will be demolished, in favor of apartments.

– This has been a process for six years, where we have now had a breakthrough for the demolition of the building. In the autumn, we will start building apartments there, but there will also be some business premises on the ground floor, Rolstad says to TV2.no.

As the building is to be demolished, it may mean that the Skal vi danse production will also have to look for new premises.

– If something is to happen with the training facilities Skal vi danse has used so far, this will be solved in a good way before a possible new season of the program, says press manager in TV 2, Jan-Petter Dahl to TV2.no.

Do everything yourself

When Det Norske Dansecenter terminated the lease, Spilling therefore contacted KLP Eiendom, which owns the site, and got a lease in place within two weeks.

– It came on very abruptly. We finished Shall We Dance on November 13, and the rent started on December 1.

– Have you had any sleep at all?

– I sit up until 06.00 at night to edit the website. I try to do as much as I can on my own, and save money on everything I can. Fortunately, I have started a study in video marketing in social media, so I hope I can use some of it in this project, she smiles.

As the building is to be demolished in favor of new apartments, Spilling must look for a new place to establish itself.

– I hope this goes so well that I have the income to establish myself somewhere else eventually. I will not get rich on this this year. All of the money and income goes to invest in a new dance hall – as long as it becomes popular, she says.

Star-studded staff

Although Spilling only runs The Zone Dance Studio until July next year, she hopes that this chance can be the start of something big.

– I always go 100 percent into projects I want to complete. So jI try to do it alone, but I have no idea what I’m doing, she smiles.

And with her she has a staff stuffed by Shall we dance professionals, including Tarjei Svalastog (23) who took third place in this year’s Shall We Dance season with TV 2 profile Siri Nilminie Avlesen-Østli (37).

In addition, Rikke Lund (26), Santino Mirenna (27), Phillip Raabe (21) and Ole Thomas Hansen (22) are also on the staff.

– I have brought some of my colleagues with me, so I hope we will be a nice group, both here, and at a future dance studio.

Must sign up for courses yourself

The studio will start its course in January, and Spilling hopes that they will be able to start courses for most levels and ages.

– It is a very low threshold for those who want to try a little dance. This should be a place with a good atmosphere, where everyone can try different dance styles.

She has a desire to create a modern dance studio, and does not rule out that she herself will sign up for courses.

– I will probably sign up for styles like hip hop. So I’ll be on a course, me too, she smiles.

– I hope people will join, and try something they may not have done before. To do something that might be a little scary – just like me, that throws me into this. I do not know what to expect and what kind of tasks I face, but I look forward to seeing what this brings.
