– Has completely misjudged – VG

HAD TO ANSWER: Hadia Tajik (Labor Party) was asked about her commuter housing case in the Labor Party’s central board on Monday.

Labor deputy leader and Minister of Labor Hadia Tajik admits that she has made a clear misjudgment in handling the questions surrounding her commuter home.

On Monday afternoon, Tajik had to stand trial in Aps’ own central board. It happened after three of the most powerful in the LO system went out with open criticism of her in VG earlier Monday:

The LO leader himself, Peggy Hessen Følsvik, trade union leader Mette Nord and Fellesforbund leader Jørn Eggum demanded that Tajik put all the cards on the table, to regain confidence in the commuter housing cases:

VG has previously revealed that Tajik when she became a political adviser in 2006, got tax-free commuter housing on the basis of a lease she never used. She said in this connection that she instead chose to live with her parents when she was at home in Rogaland, and that she helped pay expenses there.

However, she has no documentation of this, and never informed the Prime Minister’s office about the change in her living situation.

Følsvik, Eggum and Nord also announced that they would address this in the Labor Party’s central board meeting, where they have all been elected.

Tajik confirms to VG that she took strong self-criticism, and that this was her message to the central government:

– That I have completely misjudged this case, and all the questions that it has triggered. I have spent some time coming back with answers to you in VG and others. It is about questions that are far back in time, and I want everything I answer to be as documented and proper as possible. Another reason is that part of what you ask is about my family. They are not public figures, and I do not feel comfortable with the spotlight you put on them. While I am a public person, and must of course endure it, Tajik says to VG on Monday night.

WENT OUT: LO leader Peggy Hessen Følsvik (from left), Fellesforbund leader Jørn Eggum and Fagforbund leader Mette Nord.

Jørn Eggum also pointed out in the VG interview that he has received a lot of feedback from members who are disappointed.

– No one is entitled to trust, not even me. There is no doubt that I have made misjudgments, says Tajik, and elaborates:

– I should – when I did not use the lease I had entered into, give quick notice to my employer so that they knew that I lived with my parents and was involved in covering household expenses there. If I had done that, everything would have been much easier today, and it would have been easier to verify what I have now told about.

Tajik also realizes that the answers she has given have prompted new questions, she says.

– The criticism from LO shows that I should have answered more clearly at an earlier time. What I have answered has only triggered further questions, including with the LO management, says the Minister of Labor.

– Did you present something new to the central board?

– I have tried to go up the trail to get as much information as possible, and asked my parents, but we had no written agreement, we only verbally agreed that I would cover current expenses. These are large and small purchases, says Tajik.
