Elfsborg defeated IFK Gothenburg 3-1 in front of 13,126 spectators at Borås arena. The win means that Boråslaget advances upwards in the table with one round left to play before the summer break.
– I think we are the better team. We control and set from match minute one. Today we score on our chances, so that’s when you win, says Elfsborg’s Jacob Ondrejka.
Ondrejka himself got the chance from the start and stood for a goal-scoring pass. Together with Rasmus Alm, the utterances posed a dangerous deep-line threat to Blåvitt’s back line.
– Both me and Alm are speed players who like to dribble one against one and get past. We only do what we are good at. I can imagine that we are a little difficult to read there, says Ondrejka.
The assist came in connection with Elfsborg’s 3-1 goal. Ondrejka turned the game around and successfully challenged Blåvitt’s defense. Just when the 19-year-old was about to shoot, he fell over in the penalty area, but the ball went out to Oliver Zandén who managed to push the ball into the net. Ondrejka admits that he was eager to score goals himself.
– It was me. Had Oliver not scored there, I would have hoped to get a penalty and scored there instead. Nice that we win, but if I had to score, it would have been the icing on the cake for me.
Sunday’s result also means that Elfsborg extends its suite against IFK Gothenburg. In the last three years, not a single meeting in the Allsvenskan has been lost.
– We have been big brother for a few years now, says Ondrejka with a smile.
In a fierce competition for the outer positions in Elfsborg with players such as Rasmus Alm, Alexander Bernhardsson and Jeppe Okkels, Ondrejka has had six starts and three innings this season.
Is it just good with competition or is it hard not to get continuity?
– No, we have good competition there. Then it’s up to Jimmy to choose who he wants to play there. It’s just competition.
How do you look at the rest of the season?
– We want to be a top team and war at the top. Then we try to do what we are good at as well as possible and see how far it takes us. But that is what we are aiming for, says Jacob Ondrejka.
