Movie producer Harvey Weinstein, 72, who was convicted of sexual crimes, was transported to the hospital on Sunday evening for an urgent heart operation. The BBC reported about it.
Weinstein’s lawyers said that in addition to chest pains, Weistein suffered from several problems with his health. Weinstein is expected to attend a trial in New York this week.
Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual abuse in 2020. The Supreme Court overturned the sentence in April this year.
The judge justified his decision by citing that Weinstein’s trial process was not fair to Weinstein. The judge at the time had allowed several women to testify in court, even though they did not join the charges that were pending at the time.
Weinstein is currently serving his 2022 California prison sentence at New York’s Rikers Island prison. In 2022, Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison for rape.
