Harvard University Fund invests in Chilean startup Poliglota

It has been a good semester for the Chilean language learning startup Poliglota. The recent closing of an investment round for US $ 2.5 million (reaching a valuation of US $ 50 million) through the business accelerator Y Combinator, captured the interest of the main education funds in the world, such as Harvard Management Company, who will bet on the company through its investment department.

What’s more, Columbia University with E-Lab program, chose Poliglota among the 25 best education startups in the world. While Lambda School -a world benchmark in technological education valued at approximately US $ 500 million- and Zynga, also approached this startup to support them.

“These American funds only invest in companies with a global reach, which confirms the growth and impact that Poliglota is generating in the rest of the world. During the next few months, our focus will be very strongly on the expansion of the company for all Spanish-speakers in both Latin America and the United States, “he says. Since 2016 Poliglota has been teaching languages ​​socially in different coffee shops in Chile, Peru and Mexico, and – as published by PULSO in its “Pulse Startup” section – due to the pandemic, it adapted its strategy and business model focusing on having an experience of social learning they call “Online Groups”.

Today, with its new online platform, it has formed a social learning community with a monthly growth of close to 43% in 2021. Recently, the company was recognized as one of the most innovative in the world in Education in the 3rd edition of the “ enligthED Awards 2020 ”. They currently have about 15,000 students.

The entry of Poliglota to “Y Combinator” has been key, since this entity is the same that catapulted several companies such as Airbnb, Rappi, Reddit and Dropbox.
