GenPI.co – The eminent scientist named Avi Loeb from Harvard University launched an unusual project.

The scientist is taking a new approach to searching for extraterrestrials, hoping to find some sign of their technology or civilization.

The project, called Galelio, will systematically search for physical artifacts produced by “space technology civilizations.”

Previous programs, such as the SETI Institute, explored the cosmos for electromagnetic signals, not objects.

“Given the abundance of the recently discovered Earth-Sun system, Project Galileo is dedicated to the proposition that humans can no longer ignore the possible existence of extraterrestrial technological civilizations,” the group said.

Loeb, a theoretical physicist, announced the Galileo Project on Monday (26/7).

Loeb is the longest-serving chair of Harvard’s Department of Astronomy, a position he held from 2011-2020, and is currently a full-time professor of science at the university.

He rose to prominence after suggesting that an anomalous object from outside the solar system observed falling past the sun in 2017 could be an extraterrestrial artifact.
