“Hartz und cordial” protagonist Pascal wants to move out, but having his own apartment is expensive – and the man from Mannheim doesn’t want to pay rent. He wants more money from the office:
Few “tough and heartfelt” protagonists are as controversial as Pascal. In the first episodes from Mannheim, the Benz-Barackler native often faded into the background; he was quiet. That has now completely changed and he continues to make headlines. Public blasphemy about his ex-girlfriend and mother, mountains of debt and unemployment always caused him to attract negative attention – he is now continuing with this.

Pascal only recently moved back into Mama Beate’s green block, even though she didn’t really want to go there anymore. The signs point to improvement, the “Hartz und Herzlich” participant even has a job! But that’s exactly what seems to give him cocky ideas: “I’m looking for my own apartment.” He has no idea what needs to be taken into account, but says: “The landlord is also available to help and advise.”
He is also not familiar with housekeeping, i.e. cleaning, washing and tidying up, but “I also have a friend who can help me,” he says. His mother could also help him, but she doesn’t think much of Pascal’s plans. After all, he has only been going to work for a few days and doesn’t even know how much salary he will receive at the end of the month. When she finds out the reason for his search for an apartment, Beate is overwhelmed.

“I want the money for myself!” explains Pascal. He doesn’t see the point in going to work and paying his share of the rent. “You want your own apartment, but you don’t have to leave anything behind here,” says Beate, who is always annoyed by Pascal’s ingratitude in “Hartz und cordial”. “I don’t want to take anything away from you,” she explains, but she wants him to share in the costs.

Beate’s son Pascal had “a blood clot and a stroke in the brain” at birth. Eight years in a wheelchair and 15 operations followed because Pascal’s muscle growth did not function properly.
Pascal lives with Beate, his sister Chantal and her daughter Amalia. The office charges 206 euros in rent per person, which comes either from citizens’ money or from the family salary. But Pascal doesn’t see that, he thinks: “That’s not fair, the office could pay the rent!” The discussion becomes more and more heated, the 22-year-old doesn’t understand the problem. He also doesn’t seem to understand that owning an apartment costs even more.

At “Hartz und cordial” the mood is boiling between Beate and Pascal, who doesn’t want to contribute financially. “I won’t work for the state, I’ll just build something for myself in life!” says the Benz barracks worker angrily, he wants his salary for himself. He apparently believes that he doesn’t have to make a financial contribution to owning his own apartment.

“And then they always say: ‘You have to bring your pay slip,’” says Pascal, annoyed, “I don’t have it yet!” Since the 22-year-old hasn’t even been working for a month yet, he doesn’t know what his net income will be . Salary is lost. Beate is desperate; Your son doesn’t understand that the office doesn’t just pay him rent. It is clear to her that he is not yet independent: “How am I supposed to let you loose on the world if you don’t even understand our conversation!” (str)
