Somerset ∙ Harry’s book ‘Spare’ has become the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time, selling 1.43 million copies on its first day in the UK, US and Canada, according to Guinness World Records. ‘Spare’ surpassed the record held by former US President Obama’s book ‘A Promised Land’ published in 2020. It sold 887,000 copies in three countries on the day of its release. Four lakh copies were sold on the first day in the UK alone.
‘Spare’ had the biggest first-day sales of any non-fiction book ever published by Penguin Random House. The book is priced at $36 in the US and £28 in the UK, but is still on sale at a 50% discount. In 1992, after the publication of Diana: Her True Story, written by journalist Andrew Morton about Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana, Mr. Speyer received the biggest reception for a book in the UK.
In the book, Harry describes allegations about Camilla, the second wife of King Charles and now the Queen Consort, racism within the British royal family, abuse of power, asking Charles to avoid remarriage, the pain caused by the accidental death of Princess Diana, conflicts with his brother Prince William, and the problems that arose from the royal family because of his marriage to Meghan. After the book came out in the UK, there have been calls for Harry to be stripped of his royal titles. Harry is also unlikely to be invited to King Charles’ coronation in May.
