Buckingham Palace announced today, Wednesday, that Prince Harry, who has withdrawn from the British monarchy, will attend the coronation of his father, King Charles III, on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London, but without his wife, Megan, and their two children.

“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation at Westminster Abbey on May 6,” the palace wrote in a statement, noting that “the Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”

A spokesman for the couple, who moved to the United States after they withdrew from the British royal family in 2020 amid growing internal tensions, said last month that Harry and Meghan had “recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation.”

The possibility of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex returning to the United Kingdom to attend the coronation ceremony has sparked much speculation in the British media in recent months, in the wake of the couple’s fierce attacks on the royal family.

After a documentary about him was shown on Netflix in December, Harry released his controversial memoir Spear (“The Reserve”) in early January, in which he talks about his teenage drug and alcohol use and details the breakdown of his relationship with his father and brother William.

Charles, who ascended the throne after the death of his mother last September, will be officially crowned in a lavish ceremony on May 6 that will be attended by dignitaries from all over the world and watched by billions of people.

The celebrations will witness a concert with the participation of a group of stars, a “big lunch” and a volunteer initiative, as well as traditional ceremonies and royal processions.

The main coronation day, May 6, coincides with the fourth birthday of Harry and Meghan’s son, Archie.
