Cillian Murphy Gets Ralph Fiennes’ Nod for "Harry Potter" Villain in HBO Series
Actor Ralph Fiennes, known for his chilling portrayal of Lord Voldemort in the "Harry Potter" films, has offered up a casting suggestion for the upcoming HBO series.
During a recent appearance on Bravo’s "Watch What Happens Live," Fiennes enthusiastically endorsed Cillian Murphy for the villainous role. "That’s a wonderful suggestion," Fiennes said, responding to a viewer’s prompt. "I would be all in favor of Cillian. Yeah."
Fiennes’ own legacy as the Dark Lord is cemented in cinema history. He brought Voldemort to life across four "Harry Potter" films, starting with "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" in 2005 and culminating in the two-part "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" in 2011.
Murphy, known for his captivating performances in films like "Oppenheimer" and "28 Days Later," certainly has the talent and intensity to tackle a complex antagonist.
The "Harry Potter" television adaptation is slated to premiere on HBO in 2026. Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO & HBO Max Content, promises a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books. "It will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years,” he revealed.
Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, the talented duo behind the critically acclaimed HBO drama "Succession," are set to take the helm. Gardiner will serve as showrunner and executive producer, while Mylod will direct multiple episodes in addition to his executive producer role.
Adding to the excitement, rumors are swirling that Framestore VFX, the visual effects powerhouse that brought the wizarding world to life in the original films, is in talks to join the HBO series.
The new series promises to transport viewers back to the magical world of Hogwarts and introduce a new generation to the enchanting stories of Harry Potter and his friends. With a talented cast and crew in place, anticipation for the "Harry Potter" TV series is already reaching a fever pitch.
