If you were piqued by the surprise announcement of a Harry Potter Quidditch Championship game to satisfy your hunger for in-game treatment of Quidditch, you’re probably aware of the closed test going on. The developers talked about it officially at the beginning of the month, and it was no big secret that the game would be made available to selected players on the 20th-23rd. May. However, it was to be expected that someone would show their unprofessionalism or just plain laziness, skip the warning about the prohibition to share any material and send to the world first shots. And that’s exactly what happened during the night from Saturday to Sunday, when Income and then several clips appeared in other places, in which a streamer with the nickname Novemberkilogaming broadcasts content that he is not allowed to broadcast.
Just to remind you, the Harry Potter Quidditch Championship was announced in the middle of April this year, the game is being worked on by the Unbroken studio, and the purpose is to give players the opportunity to play Quidditch, which for example was missing in Hogwarts Legacy, but also to follow up on the only game so far that deals more comprehensively with this wizarding sport , namely the 2003 Quidditch World Cup. The game has been presented with cartoony, not realistic graphics from the start, and we know from the announcement that it will include playing for all team members, either in single player or with other players online. Until this weekend’s leak, we’ve only been able to watch a short clip, so if you’ve been wondering how everything will work, here’s a peek behind the curtain.
In the first video, you can view the editing of your chosen player, or associated effects, with stylized likenesses of Harry Potter, Draco Malfoy, Cedric Diggory, Ron Weasley or Madam Hooch on offer. Although we don’t see a direct modification of the character, the choice of the broom, the effect and the color of the trail that remains behind it, there is also an effect when scoring a goal, and everything is finished by choosing a celebration. It’s hard to judge how much of this content will be in the full game, but the menu seems standard and anyone could pick it up with a little effort. The second video captures part of the tutorial, but the streamer stated several times in his defense that he is playing with a controller for the very first time and that he is not very good at flying games, so there is not much to see from the bouncer training.
This also applies to the third video, which shows the end of what is apparently the first model match in which the streamer took on the role of the shooter. This is especially indicated by the highlighted camral, the effort to score at all costs and the scurry indicator that players must be on the lookout for. Hoops also appear in the air for a brief moment, presumably indicating the ideal position for a pass, which can be requested with a button. Another element of the gameplay beyond the flight itself is the possibility to push someone, but unfortunately this will not happen during the short clip. As for the impressions and feelings of the game, the players seem quite divided. Some like the dynamism and similarity to the 2003 Quidditch game, but there are also opinions that the cartoon graphics are too far from what many would expect, especially when we have a much more realistic looking Hogwarts League. In this regard, players also don’t like that the Harry Potter Quidditch Championship seems to be the reason why we can’t play Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy, which is a double shame. As we already indicated above, we definitely don’t want to judge the game by the not-so-good clips from the test version, but we can’t help but feel that everything that comes after Hogwarts Legacy will have a very difficult time indeed.
